Enhanced Oil Recovery

When an oil field reaches the end of its life, the bulk of its oil (as much as two-thirds) is left behind in the reservoir, because it is too difficult or too expensive to be extracted. It is estimated to make up only 1% extra worldwide, equivalent 20 to 30 billion barrels of additional oil recovered. It is estimated that by 2020, EOR represent 50% of world production.
