Carbon Capture and Storage as a Mitigation of Greenhouse Gas Effects

Geological storage of carbon dioxide, CO2, in underground formations has the potential to be a major component of any viable solution to reduce greenhouse gases emitted into atmosphere [1,2]. The use of wells for CO2 storage in geological formation may have problems due to the degradation of the conventional Portland cement, which can lead to CO2 leakage from the well [3].
